How can I overcome binge eating without professional help?

Over the past few years I've become growingly self-conscious about my weight and what I eat. I guess dieting and family issues have caused me to fall in this awful cycle of binging and then feeling ashamed and guilty afterwards. I'm too embarassed to tell my family and friends because I think that this could be perceived as attention seeking… I don't want anyone I know to know about this which is why I made this account. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest that you write your feelings in a journal. So instead of bingeing "out your feelings" you write it out instead. I know its a weird suggestion but it could help.

i think you need to seek professional help if you are not comfortable talking to your family about it.

You can overcome it. I think that you just need to tell someone that you can trust and maybe have them stay with you or you stay with them under their eye. A good way to overcome something like this is support from a family member/friend/girlfriend or whatever. I promise that they won't be ashamed of you. You shouldn't be embarrassed, if they were your real friends, they wouldn't make you feel any worse.

Yes! Overeaters Anonymous is a wonderful program and you choose when & where to go, and it's free.

well i think first of all it woul be best to talk to your family and friends so that you can have a support group to help keep you not track.second of all here are some tips to help you out on your own:
*throgh out all of the junk food in your house but still replace it all with healthier snacks.

*also, avoid going down aisles in the grocery store like the candy and chip aisles for example.that way it will keep you from being tempted to by junk foods.

binge eating is generally due to an underlying problem. find the problem and deal with it and the reason and want to binge will go away. when you fell the urge to binge, go for a walk or run, replace the eating with a healthy habit and get all the junk food out of the house so if you do binge it will be on healthy foods and not be quite as bad

A lot of these suggestions I am reading are certainly good, but why deny yrself prof help when it could make it faster and easier to overcome this? I recommend it.There are people who make it their life to help others to feel better about themsleves and are not going to make you embarrassed at all. everyone has challenges, not all of them show i but they are also having some embarassing issues for sure. You deserve the help as much as anyone else.
