Compulsive Overeating Binge Eating Between Meals Control
The most common element surrounding ALL Eating Disorders is the inherent presence of a low self esteem
Compulsive Overeating
People suffering with Compulsive Overeating have what is characterized as an “addiction” to food, using food and eating as a way to hide from their emotions, to fill a void they feel inside, and to cope with daily stresses and problems in their lives.
People suffering with this Eating Disorder tend to be overweight, are usually aware that their eating habits are abnormal, but find little comfort because of society’s tendency to stereotype the “overweight” individual. Words like, “just go on a diet” are as emotionally devastating to a person suffering Compulsive Overeating as “just eat” can be to a person suffering Anorexia. A person suffering as a Compulsive Overeater is at health risk for a heart attack, high blood-pressure and cholesterol, kidney disease and/or failure, arthritis and bone deterioration, and stroke.
Men and Women who are Compulsive Overeaters will sometimes hide behind their physical appearance, using it as a blockade against society (common in survivors of sexual abuse). They feel guilty for not being “good enough,” shame for being overweight, and generally have a very low self-esteem… they use food and eating to cope with these feelings, which only leads into the cycle of feeling them ten-fold and trying to find a way to cope again. With a low self esteem and often constant need for love and validation he/she will turn to obsessive episodes of binging and eating as a way to forget the pain and the desire for affection.
It is important to remember that most Eating Disorders, though their signs and symptoms may be different, share a great number of common causes and emotional aspects.

Binge eating is when you overeat, or eat too much in short periods of times. Binge eating is characterized by eating in private, hiding your foods. Many binge eaters consume normal portions of food in public, however in private they often overeat.
Binge eating is often a result of dieting. When one diets to lose weight they often restrict their junk food consumption. This leads them to experiencing out of control cravings for those junk foods. So they’ll start eating a junk food but feel like they can’t stop eating it. For example they’ll plan on having one cookie, yet wont be able to stop at one, and will eat 10 cookies.

If you cant stop eating junk foods it’s often because you have kept them out of your diet in the first place. Of if you eat too much junk foods it’s because at some point you didn’t allow yourself to have any.
Another form of binge eating is emotional eating. Emotional eating is when you eat comfort foods to soothe tough or negative emotions. Notice how you eat too much on days you are stressed out? To stop binge eating sometimes you need to first stop emotional eating.
Binge eating is a form of compulsive overeating. To overcome overeating one needs to first become aware of why they are eating in the first place. Do you eat because you are physically hungry or are you engaging in emotional eating? Are you trying to use food to comfort yourself?
Overcoming binging or overcoming binge eating disorder isn’t easy. It’s a challenge. Often binge eating ends up becoming a nasty habit, and just like any bad habit, it takes time to correct it.
Some argue that binge eating disorder isn’t really a disorder since it’s not any different from drinking too much alcohol or say even a bad gambling habit. It’s just a food addiction.
